As a gimpy, old man I thought I’d never ride again. Finally got the left hip replacement surgery I’d been waiting for. After 8 weeks, I was back riding, but on a hybrid or ‘fitness’ bike. I prefer drop bars for reasons too lengthy to go into here.
Although I live in the city, the WTB Riddler, 700 x 37c tires smooth out street imperfections. And there’s a LOT of them where I live. The 46/30T crankset combined with the 11-34T, ten speed cassette insures plenty of hill climbing power. An aluminum frame with carbon fiber fork equals less weight. But at my weight, what I really look for in a bike is wheel strength. Thirty-Two spokes per wheel vs. 28 on many other brands means reliability for the long haul.
Someday, I hope to be back out on Missouri’s Katy Trail – one of the top “rails-to-trails” bike paths in the USA. This bike was made for gravel. But, still does exceptionally well around town. YOLO If there’s any doubts in your mind…go for it.
