Sprinters succeed at Tour Down Under

The second stage of the Tour Down Under came to an end in a mass sprint last night, with Australia’s Allan Davis (Quick Step) taking the win. The bunch arrival finish to the second stage ended the 145-km route from Hahndorf to Stirling. Davis outsprinted Brown (Rabobank) and Elmiger (Ag2r) in the final straight. The stretched out peloton which included Armstrong and Pereiro, also contained five FUJI-SERVETTO riders: Megias, Nardello, Clarke, Vigano and Walker, who earlier suffered a crash but was uninjured. Capelli finished out of the main pack due to mechanical problems. In the last kilometres, after an attack by Megias, Daniele Nardello tried to position himself in the winning break along with Stubbe (Silence-Lotto) and Meier (Garmin); but was brought back by the peloton with 15 kilometres to go. The third stage of the Tour Down Under will be ridden Wednesday over a 136-km route from Unley to Victor Harbor.
