Davis Claims Final Victory at the Tour Down Under

Tour Down Under
Australia's Allan Davis (Quick Step) was crowned as the winner of the 11th Tour Down Under, the first stage race of both the UCI ProTour and the World Calendar in 2009. Italian Francesco Chicchi (Liquigas) took the win home in another bunch sprint to end the sixth and final stage of the race which was ridden over a closed city circuit in Adelaide (90 km.). Davis, who also snatched three stage wins, beat Stuart O'Grady (Saxo Bank) and Jose Joaquin Rojas Gil (Caisse d'Epargne) in the General Classification. Although FUJI-SERVETTO faced a few physical set backs - Walker giving up due to physical problems and Nardello and Capelli forced to abandon the race after a crash- Javier Megias finished within the best competitors in the race - and finished in 24th place in the GC, less than a minute after the winner of the Aussie tour.

Tour de San Luis

The sixth, penultimate stage of the Tour de San Luis was a 121-km circuit race over the race course of Potrero de los Funes. The "Blue squad" played an interesting role in two breakaway groups that formed during the race. The first one, made of eleven riders including Jesus del Nero, rode at the front of the race for 50 kilometers before Cuba's Luis Amaran (Colavita) made his move towards the stage win. With nine cyclists in pursuit of the Cuban, they formed a group including David de la Fuente, who got brought back by the peloton into the last kilometer of the stage. Ricardo Serrano suffered from heat exhaustion; however, this did not keep him from crossing the finish line. Lucero (Argentinian National Team) still holds the leader's jersey, with a last stage over 145 km, starting and finishing in San Luis, to today.
