"The addition of the trail-oriented, 5-inch-travel Reveal 2.0 is a big step forward in Fuji's quest to reinvent itself as a player in the full-suspension mountain bike market. Like the go-to dish at your favorite restaurant, the new-for-2008 Reveal is a great entree with some fantastic sides.

The main course is the beautifully shaped and custom-butted front triangle accented by a stylish, sloped down tube for added fork clearance. A gusset between the top and seat tubes and Fuji's Hollow Box technology at the seat tube, down tube and bottom-bracket junction add a claimed 35 percent increase in stiffness and overall frame strength. The rear triangle uses Specialized's time-tested FSR four-bar linkage to deliver 130mm of rear travel. Asymmetrical chainstays and a V-cut weld at the rear dropouts reduce frame material to trim grams while adding tangible stiffness for climbs and accelerations, says Fuji.

The spec is stellar from top to bottom. Suspension choice is all RockShox with a 130mm adjustable Recon 351 fork up front and the Ario 2.2 shock in back. This fully air-sprung suspension setup is light and offers a personalized level of tunability for different riding styles and conditions. Both fork and shock feature lockouts for road rides to the trail, while the Recon comes with a handlebar-mounted PopLoc remote for on-the-fly adjustments and out-of-the-saddle climbing.

Fuji didn't skimp on the drivetrain, wheels and brakes, decking the Reveal out with Shimano's all-new Deore XT (watch a video review at mountainbike.com/08xtvideo) from head to toe. Some XT highlights: crisp shifting on the made for all-mountain Shadow rear derailleur; tunable throw on brake levers and modulation control for single finger stopping power; a rock-solid tubeless wheel set with Schwalbe Nobby Nic tires for great traction in corners and even better no-slip action on loose climbs.

On the trail, the Reveal 2.0 is truly a do-anything bike. It's light enough to race (and would excel in marathon and 24-hour formats), has burly enough suspension and a slack 69.5-degree head angle for rough, rocky descents, log crossings and hucking, and is superfast and nimble on wide-open buttery singletrack as well as on tight, technical climbs. Long recognized as a brand committed to value, Fuji's Reveal 2.0 is a flagship for that credo. Yes, dropping 3,000 bucks on a bike is a big investment. But when you look at what you get in terms of spec and versatility and compare it to what you'd get from industry heavyweights for that kind of loot the Reveal 2.0 comes out looking like a value meal.

BUY IT IF: You want one bike for the weekly town race series, all-day epics on the weekend, and the freedom to ride off 4-foot retaining walls on the way home
BUT NOT IF: You like 'em "big name"; name recognition is the only thing the Reveal doesn't have
